Swim Camp

Youth Special Interest programs are usually held during the school year, during the after-school hours at the Lakeland Center. See what we currently have to offer below!


Kids Art Club

Ages 5-12

Mondays

Explore painting, pottery, drawing, and hands-on crafts in a fun weekly class that encourages imagination and creativity. Kids will try a variety of projects throughout the session, with special guest instructors from the community joining us along the way to share their own creative skills and ideas. Each week brings something new, so come ready to create—and don’t forget to dress for mess!

Guest Instructors: Jessica Edmonds from Keep Carbondale Beautiful, Jillian Rose, Vickie Devenport, Nancy Childers, Sophia Teague, and more!

Dates: Session 1: 9/14-10/19 Session 2: 11/2 -12/14

Time: 5:30PM – 6:30 PM

Fee: $35.00 R / $40.00 NR per session

Aim & Adventure

Ages 8-15

Ready to give archery and other target sports a shot? Learn the basics of archery and more in a fun, beginner-friendly program. Participants will be introduced to basic shooting techniques and have a chance to practice their skills on the range.

Dates: 9/17-10/22

Time: 5:00-6:00 PM

Fee: $45 R ($50 NR)

Cheer Stars – NEW!

Ages 8-12

Get ready to move, cheer, and shine! Cheer Stars is a fun weekly class where participants will learn basic cheer motions, chants, dance, rhythm, and simple routines in an encouraging environment. Each week, participants will build coordination, confidence, teamwork, and spirit while practicing together. The session will conclude with a performance for family and friends so participants can show what they’ve learned.

Dates: 9/16-10/21

Time: 5:00-6:00 PM

Fee: $45 R ($50 NR)

Instructors Wanted!

The Carbondale Park District is currently seeking instructors to lead programs at the Lakeland Center and other district facilities. We’re looking for enthusiastic, reliable individuals who are passionate about health, wellness, and sharing their skills with the community. Instructors should be able to create a positive, inclusive environment for participants of all ages and ability levels. Experience teaching group classes is preferred.
